Carousell Group’s Circular Economy Impact Report

Sustainability has been an integral part of Carousell’s mission from our inception.

Buying and selling secondhand items disrupt the need to unnecessarily constantly produce brand new items and extend the availability of limited resources for future generations. Hence, Carousell was started with the goal of inspiring people to sell their underutilised and unused items, and encourage everyone to make secondhand their first choice to give these items a new lease of life instead of having them end up in the landfills.

Carousell Group set out to measure the positive climate impact driven by our community’s choice to buy and sell secondhand. By quantifying these benefits, we aim to better understand how secondhand shopping reduces carbon emissions and to equip our users and stakeholders with actionable insights that inspire deeper participation in the circular economy.

In this second edition of the Circular Economy Impact Report, we’ve built a more detailed and granular dataset to deepen our understanding of how shopping secondhand reduces climate impact. The current report now includes additional categories such as Bicycles, TV & Home Appliances, Video Gaming and Cars/ Motorcycle Accessories, as well as marketplaces like Mudah.my in Malaysia.
