SINGAPORE, 4 June 2026 — How active is your local area when it comes to trading secondhand? Launching in anticipation of World Environment Day on 5 June, Carousell today unveiled its first-ever interactive Circular Economy Impact Microsite, introducing a hyper-local Neighbourhood Leaderboard that maps out the estimated climate impact of localities across Singapore for the first time.
The platform is designed to make regional carbon data transparent for the public, showing how small, everyday household actions can ladder up into a measurable collective impact for local communities.
“For too long, climate metrics have been delivered as abstract, top-down numbers. With this interactive experience, we are turning data into a tool for community visibility. It allows different areas to see the direct, estimated climate value of their completed transactions. We want to use this visibility to spark local pride and encourage more users to actively participate in circular trade,” said Mr. Marcus Tan, Co-founder, Carousell.

Bridging the Corporate Data Gap
The interactive microsite bridges the gap between technical sustainability reporting and the daily choices of marketplace users. While Carousell has historically championed the trade of pre-loved goods, the platform is now bringing its climate data directly to consumers to turn abstract figures into straightforward tools for community benchmarking.
The platform introduces three main interactive features to make climate impact visible for the general public:
- Neighbourhood Leaderboard: A localised ranking system, updated daily, tracking potential CO₂e avoided across communities based on completed transactions.
- Carbon Calculator: An interactive module where individuals select common household item categories to view the approximate CO₂e potentially avoided per transaction. Across the marketplace ecosystem, a single secondhand purchase avoids an average of 15.6kg of CO₂e, which is the climate equivalent of skipping 31 hours of continuous air-conditioning usage.
- Impact by Category: Marketplace-wide data visualisations displaying cumulative potential carbon savings across primary platform categories, giving users a macro-view of consumer trends alongside their local neighbourhood rankings.

Methodology and Regional Scale
For a more conservative measurement approach, all carbon avoidance metrics are calculated utilising a specialised lifecycle assessment (LCA) methodology developed alongside European climate-tech platform Vaayu. The underlying framework measures the footprint of products from raw material extraction through to consumer delivery, factoring in displacement rates derived from over 15,000 user survey responses to keep all disclosures grounded in real behaviour.
While the microsite highlights local platform dynamics, the broader scale across the wider Carousell Group regional ecosystem is extensive. The combined historical choices of buyers and sellers across all group marketplaces have contributed to a total cumulative impact of approximately 262 million kilograms of CO₂e potentially avoided in a single reporting year. For a mainstream audience, this avoided volume is equivalent to the carbon footprint of 507,484 passengers flying one-way from Singapore to London.
To explore these metrics at a local level, the public can visit impact.carousell.com. The site allows users to check their local area rankings, calculate their personal transaction footprints, and take action by listing even one unused item, showing how a single household transaction can contribute to a more circular future.

Methodology Note: Avoided emissions calculations are developed alongside climate data firm Vaayu. Figures represent estimated CO₂e potentially avoided per completed used transaction compared to purchasing a similar new item, on average. Results are calculated based on product category life cycle assessments and user replacement rates; they are not specific to individual transactions and should not be interpreted as absolute guarantees. Full methodology details are accessible at impact.carousell.com.
