With Octopus, Carousell users have a safe and convenient way to pay, making secondhand shopping even more seamless and trusted.
Carousell introduced its on-platform payment and delivery features in August 2024 to enhance the buying and selling experience. The addition of Octopus provides Hong Kong customers with the familiar, convenient and secure digital payment experience.

Expanded options drive secondhand adoption
Since the launch of on-platform payments, nearly half of all newly-listed items in Hong Kong have featured the “Buy” button, allowing secure transactions. With approximately 90% of users favouring e-wallets over credit cards when paying via Carousell’s on-platform payment feature, the addition of Octopus aligns with local preferences, offering an even more seamless payment experience.
To celebrate the integration, Carousell is waiving platform fees and offering free delivery promotions exclusively for buyers using Octopus for a limited time.
Trusted payments for buyers and sellers
Carousell’s on-platform payment system ensures that funds are held safely until buyers confirm receipt of their items as described. Sellers benefit from a streamlined process, collecting payments conveniently regardless of the buyer’s chosen method. Sellers’ personal and banking details remain private, and once transactions are complete, they can transfer earnings directly to their bank accounts.
This integration minimises risks for both buyers and sellers, providing a safer alternative to third-party digital transfers, which can expose users to phishing scams. The integration of Octopus further strengthens Carousell’s commitment to creating a trusted and convenient platform for secondhand transactions.
Carousell users can tap the ‘Buy’ button to pay directly on the platform using a trusted local payment method. Buyer Protection safeguards transactions against non-delivery or receiving the wrong item, giving buyers peace of mind. Users can also arrange delivery through Carousell Official Delivery at checkout, completing their transaction in one seamless process.
